Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant, with a 2-gigawatt capacity from four reactors, shut down on Sunday for the first time in its 44-year history due to record-low water levels in the Danube River. The facility operated at just over 10 percent capacity before the shutdown, while Prime Minister Péter Magyar warned of critical days ahead during an impending heat wave. Low water levels have also disrupted shipping, tourism, and triggered water-use restrictions in more than 100 localities.
