James Boyard, inspector general of Haiti's national police and chief of staff to Defense Minister Mario Andrésol, was kidnapped on Thursday along with his wife and six-year-old U.S.-citizen daughter in the Bourdon neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. A ransom was demanded for their release. The incident occurred amid ongoing gang-related violence that has produced at least 2,310 deaths and 99 kidnappings in Haiti this year.
