UNHCR data recorded 117.8 million forcibly displaced people worldwide at the end of 2025, equivalent to one in 70 individuals. The total fell by 5.4 million from the prior year, driven by 14.7 million returns to places of origin including 4.4 million refugee repatriations. More than 90 percent of refugee returns occurred in Afghanistan, Sudan, and Syria.
