Flash floods struck Rasuwa district and other parts of central Nepal on Wednesday, sending water and debris into the Upper Trishuli-3A hydropower tunnel on 26 August. The Nepali Army rescued approximately 350 people from the tunnel by Friday afternoon, while more than 100 workers and residents remained believed trapped. Nearly 100,000 people were affected overall, with a candlelight vigil held by Nepali diaspora groups in New York on 27 August.
