A ferry carrying 267 passengers and crew capsized on August 30, 2026, approximately four nautical miles from Kyrenia/Girne port while en route to Tasucu on the Turkish mainland. Eight people died, 18 remain missing, and 241 were rescued, with the vessel sinking to a depth of 514 meters. The captain and eight others were arrested, and northern Cyprus declared three days of national mourning.
