The Democratic Republic of the Congo is experiencing an Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain, with reports of more than 540 suspected cases and over 130 deaths. No approved vaccine or therapeutic exists for this strain, and the World Health Organization has declared the situation a public health emergency of international concern. The outbreak has also affected Uganda and is described as widening.
