The Eaton fire began in Altadena in January 2025, killing 19 people, destroying or damaging more than 9,000 structures, and burning 22 square miles before containment after nearly one month. An 18-month investigation released on Tuesday attributed the ignition to electrical arcing on an out-of-service Southern California Edison tower. Southern California Edison has acknowledged likely equipment involvement while filing lawsuits alleging delayed evacuation warnings by Los Angeles County agencies.
