The U.S. Department of Justice established an anti-weaponization fund to compensate individuals claiming unfair federal targeting, announced as part of a settlement in President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS. The fund stems from the 2023 leak of Trump's tax returns by former IRS contractor Charles Edward Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty and received a five-year prison sentence. Two Capitol Police officers involved in the January 6, 2021 events have filed suit to block the fund.
