On August 6, 2026, 90,000 rubber ducks were released from the Columbus Drive bridge into the Chicago River as part of the annual Chicago Ducky Derby fundraiser. The event, organized by Special Olympics Illinois, raised more than $480,000 through duck sponsorships priced at $10 for a lone duck and $30 for a quack pack. Sponsors of the fastest duck received an SUV while the runner-up received $2,500 in cash.
