The National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, commissioned by Health Secretary Wes Streeting, consulted more than 450 families across 12 NHS trusts and concluded that maternity care is fragmented, overly complex, and slow to improve. The reports follow the 2016 stillbirth of Harriet Hawkins at Nottingham, where parents were initially informed the death was unavoidable.
