The Bald Range wildfire, which began August 7, prompted a 3 a.m. evacuation order that displaced more than 20,000 people in a region over 400 km northwest of Vancouver. One 80-year-old woman died during the flight from her home, and the provincial government declared a state of emergency. At least 200 major wildfires are burning across the U.S. and Canada under hot, dry conditions.
