Australia initiated legal proceedings against 3M in the Federal Court on May 28 seeking A$2 billion in damages related to PFAS contamination at 28 military sites. The action alleges that 3M failed to disclose known environmental risks of its firefighting foam despite providing safety assurances. 3M never manufactured the product in Australia and ceased sales there approximately 20 years ago.
