Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of a high-level committee on demographic change and directed it to examine population shifts in border districts, metro cities, and industrial towns due to illegal migration and other causes. The committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar and including the census commissioner plus other members, was formed by the Home Ministry to recommend measures. Shah linked the issue to national sovereignty, security, and social structures.
