On August 16 2026 at approximately 9:30 am a passenger declared a pistol and ammunition for Air India Express flight IX-1810 at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. During inspection a round discharged injuring two AAICLAS screeners who were treated at New Laxmi Trauma Centre. Local police were notified and an investigation is underway according to Hindustan Times and The Hindu.
